Trip Introduction: Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return

Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter return initiates with a scenic and adventurous flight from Kathmandu Airport to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. It is an amazing adventure of a lifetime in itself as the Lukla airport is one of the most adventurous airstrips in the world. From the airplane, the astounding vistas of Everest ranges and other mountain peaks are beyond explanation. It is just like flying over those mighty peaks and feeling their touch with the cool breeze.

As we land on Lukla, the gateway to the trekking routes in the Everest region of Nepal, our EBC trekking commences and we start trekking towards Phakding. From Phakding, we will follow the regular Everest Base Camp Trekking route via Namche Bazaar and continue trekking for a week until we reach our prime destination of this trek i.e. the Everest Base Camp itself.

Things to explore during EBC Trek with Helicopter return?

It is obviously going to be a rewarding journey up to the base camp of the gigantic Mt. Everest. En route, we shall be passing typical Sherpa settlements exploring their lifestyle and culture, their unique food and culinary, arts and monuments like Chortens and Monasteries, and many more which are beyond words.  Likewise, we shall pass through the lush bushes with rhododendron forest and other alpine vegetation, and along the trail, we will spot several species of flora and fauna which are extinct too.

You will get to explore the wonderful mountain scenery; which is simply not seen on the foot trail. It is truly an awesome experience and we assure you it will be the best journey of your life. Needless to explain, the eye-dazzling scenery of views of Mt. Everest, and other mountain peaks like Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Thamserku, and several other magnificent peaks in the backdrop will make our trekking to the Everest Base Camp a remarkable experience of a lifetime.

The picturesque settlements, pristine lakes, waterfalls, suspension bridges, prayer flags, etc. enhance the beauty of the Everest Base Camp Trekking route even more. The exhausted feeling due to long hours of walking through such an off-the-beaten trail is suddenly relieved as we sight the wonderful sceneries surrounding us.

The highlight of Everest base camp with helicopter return

  • high suspension bridge
  • The tallest commercial district in the world - Namche Bazaar.
  • Settlement of the Sherpa people
  • Fly above the tallest mountains, such as Mount Everest.
  • At 5545 meters, Kalapathar offers breathtaking views of Mount Everest (8848 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), Nuptse (7861 meters), Amadablam, and many other peaks.
  • Enjoy the view of peaks between 7,000 and 8,000 meters, including Mt. Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world.

Helicopter Ride from Gorak Shep to Lukla

After completing the best Everest Base Camp Trek journey and exploring Kalapatthar – the best viewpoint of Mt. Everest, we will return to Gorak Shep. From Gorak Shep, we will take a helicopter ride along the colossal mountains, glaciers, and high valleys back to Kathmandu. The helicopter ride from Gorak Shep instead of the regular trekking back all the way up to Lukla makes this Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return a unique and worthwhile package.

Especially for those who are bounded by time but wish to step foot at the base camp of Everest, this package is the best travel package in Nepal. Within 10-12 days, you can experience both the trekking journey up to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar as well as manage to return to Kathmandu on time. Hence, this is the perfect use of your holiday in Nepal.

Nepal Horizon Treks & Expedition has specially designed this 12 Days Everest Base Camp fly-out by helicopter trip taking safety and comfort as a top priority and we also have 9 Days Everest Base Camp package for strictly time-bounded people. With the chartered helicopter ride to Kathmandu, one must not need to worry about descending back down via the same route and Lukla flight cancellation.

EBC Trek Difficulty, Comfort, and Safety

Everest Base Camp Trek with a Helicopter return itinerary is meticulously designed to ensure proper acclimatization and exploration by limiting the daily altitude gain. We stay overnight at a luxurious hotel in Kathmandu and the best available lodges have attached bathrooms at most places during the trek.

As safety is our major concern, we make sure to have medically trained expert trek leaders with proper safety backups like Oxygen tanks and medical boxes. This exotic trek best suits families and groups of friends who have less than two weeks to enjoy an adventurous holiday at the cheapest Everest Base Camp Trek package.

Though the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter return is a luxurious trekking package in Nepal, it is highly recommended to have sound physical fitness and wellness before embarking on the trek. Regarding the prior trekking experience, it is not mandatory to have some preparation for the trek before you actually embark on the Everest Base Camp Trek is a wise decision. It is because we shall be walking for 4-5 hours a day on average while we trek up to EBC which requires a good level of stamina and wellness.

Best Time to Trek Everest Base Camp

Before traveling to the Everest region, it is very important to schedule your trip dates wisely. It is because the weather condition plays a very essential role in the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return. The Lukla flight often gets delayed because of unfavorable weather.

That is why Nepal Horizon Treks and Expedition would suggest making your travel date fall during either the autumn season or the season of Spring. These two seasons are highly favorable and the weather conditions, as well as the trekking routes, are best for trekking to Everest Base Camp. To be more precise, the months from Sept-Nov, and Mar-May are perfect months for this trek. Let's discuss the views and the weather conditions in detail

Spring season ( March to April )

The Spring season is the most favorable season for the Everest base camp helicopter tour which goes from March to April. In the spring season, the weather is generally calm and perfect for high-altitude climbing. The trial’s magnificent views of a clear sky and vibrant rhododendrons, in addition to the sunny skies, definitely contribute to the experience. However, even the season with the nicest weather has a cost. The location gets a little crowded during the hot season.

The mountain can still be climbed in May, just before the monsoon, but you might end up facing other climbers who have already completed a series of rotations during which they climb the mountains higher and higher while periodically returning to Everest Base Camp to rest before making an attempt on the summit.

Monsoon season (June- August)

Due to the slippery terrain, landslides, leeches, and clouded views, trekking during the rainy season could be quite difficult for trekkers. In addition, the monsoon season in Nepal starts in June and ends in August. However, this time of month brings warmer temperatures and all-day rain. Flying from Lukla, the riskiest airport can be dangerous because of the bad weather. In addition to how you experience the Everest region, flights from Kathmandu to Lukla may be impacted by the weather. Although flying is the most popular way to get to Lukla, flights are frequently canceled when the weather is bad in Kathmandu, Lukla, or on the way.

Autumn season ( September- November)

It is also a favourable and secure time of year for short treks to Everest base camp. A little bit colder than springtime is fall. But the magnificent views of the nearby peaks that you get to take in at this time of year make it worthwhile. The weather is pleasant, the days are dry, and the views are breathtaking, even though it is currently colder than it was in the spring. The area has also been completely cleaned by the monsoon rains, giving it an especially lush and green appearance.

As the rainy season comes to a close, the beautiful surroundings burst into blossom with colourful flowers, the river gushes fiercely, and the cool air offers you a stunning view of the Himalayas. Nepal celebrates its most important festivals during the 15-day Dashain celebration, during which hundreds of animals are killed in honour of Durga, the Goddess of Victory. At the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal Airlines even sacrifices goats on the runway. If you are fortunate enough to get clear views of Mt. Everest, the crown jewel of Nepal, you will surely have the best time in the Everest region in the autumn.

Winter season ( December- February)

The winter season is not a favourable season if you want to experience a safe and comfortable trek. During the day, the temperature during this season varies between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. The temperature drops to -20 degrees centigrade at night. If you are properly dressed for the chilly weather, winter may be a great season for the real adventure. Enjoy the clear skies and stunning mountain views to yourself. If you bring the correct clothing and attire, you can continue your walk during the winter. With the right gear, which includes thicker clothing, thermal coats, thick socks, gloves, first aid, and more, those who can hike in the cold can do so now.

If you want to avoid competing for space with other passengers, winter is a perfect time to fly. The good news is that the road to Everest Base Camp will be much less crowded as people of the area travel in droves to avoid the cold. Currently, there are also frequent price reductions for flights and tours.

Altitude Sickness during the trek and Prevention

Last but not the least, corresponding precisely with the trip organizer is also an essential part of trekking. The information about the Everest trekking, the weather conditions, gears and equipment to be borrowed or rented upon arrival to Nepal, etc. are very important even though it doesn’t sound significant. Similarly, having knowledge of Acute Mountain Sickness and other altitude-prone sicknesses and prevention is a must.

  • Free pick and drop off from the airport to your hotel
  • Own hotel service with clean and hygienic food and facilities

Short description of Everest Base Camp Helicopter Return

Everest Base Camp Trekking with a Helicopter Return starts with a normal flight from the capital Kathmandu to Lukla, a town in the Nepal North Mid East Himalaya region near Khumbu, where our walk begins as you enter Sherpa territory and experience breathtaking mountain views.

As the adventure begins, you will arrive at the well-known Namche Bazaar, the main town/village of Khumbu, and continue on a picturesque trail to stunning Thyangboche, which is surrounded by lush vegetation, tall tree lines, and a variety of peaks with views of Mt. Everest and the magnificent Amadablam.

Enjoy a tour of Thyangboche Monastery's fascinating interior as we travel beyond the tree line through harsh, windswept terrain and closer to tall mountains to reach our major attraction and last destination, Everest Base Camp.

In spring, the entire hills are embellished with colorful rhododendron and other wildflowers. The higher you get the colder it will be. Above 4,000m, the temperature usually goes down to freezing level. Night can drop as low as -10 degrees while days are mild which is perfect for trekking.

FAQs: Everything You Need to Know

Why return by Helicopter instead of trekking back from Gorak Shep to Lukla?

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is an alternative package for the regular Everest Base Camp Trekking itinerary which is specially designed for the trekkers with a very short time to be spent in Nepal. This is to escape the trekking route and complete the trip in fewer days than usual.
