Your hike begins with an hour-long trek along the river bank of Budhigandaki, leading you to Salleri. From there, it's another hour to Philim, where you'll cross a suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki. Deng itself is a small village with around 20 houses and a handful of hotels. Despite its size, Deng offers beautiful views of a small peak and has a predominantly Buddhist community with stupas and mani walls dotting the landscape. Though the accommodations are basic, with no rooms having attached bathrooms and limited charging facilities, the village does provide Wi-Fi. After this tough section, the trail flattens out briefly, offering spectacular views of the mountains, including the best viewpoint of the entire journey. Pyungen Gompa, a 600-700-year-old monastery, is a highlight of the trek and a testament to the region's rich history.

After a brief visit to Pyungen Gompa, the adventure continues downhill for 2.5 hours to Samagaon, arriving around 2 or 3 pm. The path to Yak Kharkha is particularly interesting, as you might spot wild animals along the glacier trail. Like on other days, crossing the raging river will keep you interested for around two hours on the trail.

Or, you can walk to Sama Gong's northern Manaslu Base Camp. After Birendra Tal, continue on the trail and take a left onto the base camp track.

Max Altitude: 3,540m (11,614ft)

Day 8

Trek from Sama Gaun to Samdo

Now, you're in the high mountain zone of the Manaslu trek, enjoying shorter days of walking and soaking in the surroundings. From Samagaon to Samdo, the path leads you through an alpine meadow with just a few huts scattered here and there. The journey includes a suspension bridge and mostly flat terrain, with a final uphill stretch before crossing the Budhi Gandaki River. In about four hours, you'll arrive in Samdo, ready for a well-deserved lunch.

Samdo, the last village on the Manaslu trek, is often referred to as the "forbidden village." It’s a sizable village with 30 to 40 houses, all inhabited by Buddhist people. The village features monasteries and stupas, offering a rich cultural experience. From the windows of the local hotels, you can see the impressive Sambo peak and the entire Manaslu range. Samdo has 6 to 7 hotels, all equipped with attached bathrooms, WiFi, and hot showers, though there are no in-room plugs. After a 6-hour trek, you’ll rest and enjoy meals at the tea house, surrounded by the beauty of the high mountains.

Max Altitude: 3,860m (12,664ft)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 9

Acclimatization Day (Day Trip to Tibet Border)

After some well-deserved rest, you can take another day off in Samdo, extending your stay on the Manaslu tour. This extra day gives you the chance to either relax, enjoy hot soup, and take photos, or go on a fun hike nearby. One option is a trek to the Tibetan border, which takes about 5 to 6 hours. This uphill trail leads to the Tibetan pillar, offering great views and aiding in acclimatization. You can capture some unique photos on Manaslu's Tibetan side before heading back to Samdo.

For those who prefer a shorter hike, the adventure to Samdo Peak is an excellent alternative. This 300 to 400-meter uphill hike takes about 2 hours and provides a rewarding experience without the commitment of a longer adventure. Whether you choose to explore the Tibetan border or climb Samdo Peak, you'll find both options enriching and enjoyable. Meals and accommodations are provided at the tea house, with a total trekking distance of around 9 km for the day.

Max Altitude: 3,860m (12,664ft)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Lodge
Day 10

Samdo to Dharmasala

On the 10th day of the Manaslu Circuit, the trek might be shorter, but the remoteness of the area makes it a challenging journey. The hike to the highest point of the journey takes about 4.5 hours. Shortly after leaving Samdo, you reach Larke Bazaar, the only stop with a hotel, after a 30-minute walk. The trail then leads you across a precarious wooden bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River, followed by a 500-meter uphill climb through an alpine meadow. Enjoy the impressive views of the Larkya Glacier as you continue to the stone-built guest house in Dharamsala, arriving around 1 pm for a hearty lunch.

Dharmasala is the remotest stop on the route, with no village and only three basic hotels. The accommodations are very simple, and you might need to sleep in a common room on a mat. Despite the minimal facilities, there is Wi-Fi available. Many tourists take the opportunity to acclimatize by hiking for a few hours to Khaka Danda. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you'll spend the night in a tea house. The total trekking distance for the day is about 12 km, taking 5 to 6 hours.

Max Altitude: 4,480m (14,698ft)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

You need to get up early and leave the teahouse rather early because you will cross the pass before midday. Views of Himlung (7126m), which is close to Tibet, Kang Guru (6981m), and Annapurna II (7937m), which is part of the Annapurna Range, will be visible. After that, you will make the approximately three-hour hike to Bimthang, where you will spend the night. As you descend, you will be able to see the Pongkar Tal between the Pongkar and Salpu Danda Glaciers, as well as enormous icefalls and mountains in all directions.

Max Altitude: 3,750m (12,303ft)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Additional tips for Manaslu Circuit Trek

Gearing up for the Manaslu Circuit Trek? Awesome choice! Here are some additional tips to make your adventure even smoother. First off, let’s talk permits. Make sure you’ve got your Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit sorted out. These are your golden tickets to exploring this incredible region. Trust me, you don’t want to be stuck at a checkpoint without them!

Now, about the gear—pack smart, pack light. The terrain here can throw all kinds of surprises at you, so sturdy hiking boots and layers are your best friends. Oh, and don’t forget your rain gear. Manaslu’s weather can change quicker than a chameleon on a rainbow! Stay hydrated like it’s your job, especially at higher altitudes where the air gets drier than a desert wit. And snacks? Bring plenty. You’ll be burning those calories faster than a bonfire on New Year’s Eve.

When it comes to altitude, take it slow and steady. Remember, you’re not racing Usain Bolt here. Acclimatization is key to enjoying those breathtaking (oops, I mean, those jaw-dropping) views without feeling like you’ve been hit by a freight train. Listen to your body, not your over-enthusiastic inner explorer. And hey, embrace the local culture—say hi to the villagers, try some dal bhat (it’s a lifesaver), and learn a few Nepali phrases. Trust me, a little goodwill goes a long way in these parts.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to take detours or extra rest days if needed. This trek is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. So, soak it all in, snap those Insta-worthy shots, and above all, have the time of your life on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Safe travels, adventurer!

Manaslu circuit trek cost

Generally, a Manaslu Circuit Trek costs between $1,050 and $1,250. But our Nepal Horizon trek and expedition team offers a very fair price for the Manaslu Circuit Trek package at just USD 920 per person. This is a total price that covers your meals, lodging, permits, guide, and porter. However, the cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek varies depending on whether a hiker is hiking alone or with a group.

Moreover, if you are a solo trekker, the price will be higher for you compared to group trekkers. Another thing to be aware of is that costs vary from company to company. Additionally, the price varies according to the trekking services you choose.

Manaslu circuit trek map

One of the most important items to have with you while trekking the Manaslu Circuit is a Manaslu Trek map. A hiking map is comparable to a hiking manual. It reveals a lot about the geography and trekking path. Similarly, it provides information on the trail's length, altitude, population, and amenities like a market, a hospital, a health post, a security station, and so forth. We will significantly profit from our excursion if we use a real map.

Extra expenses Duding the Mansalu Circuit Trek

The majority of expenses are covered by the package, but you'll still need to bring spending money for unforeseen costs. The choice of where to stay and eat in Kathmandu is entirely up to our esteemed clientele. In Kathmandu, there are numerous high-end and low-cost lodging options.

Similar expenses include getting a visa, buying travel insurance, buying drinks, and snacks for the trip, including hot (tea/coffee), and cold drinks, tipping the trekking crew, buying souvenirs, etc. We advise you to go with cash (dollars) that you may use to buy Nepalese rupees in Kathmandu. It would be good if you carried extra cash with you because there are no ATMs or banks after Namche Bazaar.

Foods and Drinks Available During the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Alright, let's talk about one of the most crucial aspects of trekking—the food and drinks you'll find along the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Trust me, fueling your adventure with the right bites can make all the difference between conquering those mountain passes like a pro or feeling like you've been hit by a yak train! First up, dal bhat—this Nepali staple is your best friend on the trail. It’s a hearty dish of rice and lentil soup, usually served with vegetables, pickles, and sometimes meat or fish. It’s not just a meal; it’s a trekking tradition! Dal bhat power, twenty-four-hour, right?

Now, if you’re craving a little variety, fear not—teahouses along the route offer a range of dishes from pasta to pancakes. Yes, you heard that right—pancakes with a Himalayan twist! Perfect for a sweet treat after a long day’s trek. And let's not forget the momos—those delicious Nepali dumplings filled with veggies or meat, steamed or fried to perfection. They’re like little pockets of happiness after a tough climb. And of course, don’t skimp on the snacks. Energy bars, nuts, and dried fruits are your go-to for quick boosts of energy on the go.

As for drinks, hydration is key in the high altitudes of the Manaslu region. Tea is a lifeline here—whether it’s hot lemon tea to warm you up or the classic masala chai to perk you up. And if you’re celebrating reaching a new summit or just want to unwind, try some local rakshi—a potent Nepali liquor made from fermented millet or rice. Just remember, moderation is key, especially at altitude! So, as you trek through the stunning landscapes of the Manaslu Circuit, rest assured you’ll find plenty of hearty meals and refreshing drinks to keep you fueled and smiling all the way to the finish line.

Accommodation Options Available During the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Let's talk about where you'll rest your weary legs along the Manaslu Circuit Trek—accommodation options that range from cozy tea houses to basic lodges with a sprinkle of local hospitality. Tea houses are your go-to spots along the trail, offering a warm bed, hot meals, and a chance to swap stories with fellow trekkers. They're like little oases nestled in the mountains, providing a comfy refuge after a day of conquering those majestic Himalayan trails.

These tea houses come in various flavors—some are basic with shared facilities, while others offer more comfort with private rooms and attached bathrooms. Picture yourself cozied up by a fireplace, sipping hot tea while gazing at the starry skies above the towering peaks. It’s not just accommodation; it’s an experience. And let's not forget the lodges and guesthouses dotted along the route—they may be simpler than tea houses but still offer warm hospitality and a place to recharge. You’ll find options that cater to every budget and preference, ensuring you find your perfect spot to rest and rejuvenate for the next day’s adventure.

Whether you choose a tea house perched on a hillside or a lodge nestled in a valley, each accommodation option along the Manaslu Circuit Trek offers a unique charm and a chance to connect with the local culture. From basic necessities like a warm bed and hearty meals to the camaraderie of fellow trekkers sharing tales of the trail, your accommodation becomes more than just a place to sleep—it’s part of your unforgettable journey through the stunning landscapes of Manaslu. So, pack light, embrace the hospitality, and get ready for a trekking adventure where every night’s stay is a memorable part of the experience.
